Apple Inc. will open its annual Worldwide Developers Conference tonight at 10:30 p.m. IST (7 a.m. ET), with the spotlight on the next generation of its mobile operating system. While the update has circulated as iOS 19, industry insiders say Apple may instead align its name with the calendar year, branding the release iOS 26 and applying the same scheme to iPadOS, watchOS and macOS.
The forthcoming software refresh promises a user interface overhaul that Apple has not attempted since iOS 7 in 2013. Early reports describe a streamlined look inspired by VisionOS, featuring translucent layers, softer transitions and uniformly rounded app icons. The design language will extend across iPhone, iPad and Mac to deliver a cohesive experience.
Artificial intelligence will play a larger role in system-wide features. Siri is expected to leverage generative models for context-aware suggestions, proactive battery-saving tips and improved in-app assistance. Building on last year’s Genmoji and Image Playground tools, the company may also unveil new machine-learning capabilities aimed at everyday tasks.
Several core applications are due for upgrades. A redesigned Games app could replace the long-standing Game Center framework, while Translate may introduce live audio transcription through AirPods. Health+ services are reportedly expanding to include nutritional tracking and AI-driven wellness recommendations.
Other enhancements under consideration include native RCS support in Messages, a lock-screen charging time readout, a system-wide Reader mode and refreshed App Store labels. Accessibility and connectivity features set for improvement range from streamlined public Wi-Fi authentication to an updated Background Sounds utility and support for bilingual Arabic-English keyboards. Leaks also hint at a simpler process for transferring eSIMs to Android devices.
Apple traditionally reserves surprises for its keynote, so tonight’s announcements may exceed current rumors. iOS 26 Launching Tonight: Apple Plans Biggest Redesign Since iOS 7
